Live-Tweeting "Brandjack"

As you may know if you follow me on Twitter, I watched and live-tweeted the webinar "Brandjack" on Friday. The webinar, recorded in 2015, was hosted by Dr. Katerina Tsetsura and featured Quentin Langley and Oliver Schmidt as presenters. They presented information regarding social media hijacking and how companies can avoid and deal with social media crises. Many of the strategies discussed agree with the principles Guy Kawasaki talks about in "The Art of Social Media". I incorporated Kawasaki's tips into my own tweets as well.

The strategies I noticed from "Brandjack" that echoed "The Art of Social Media" are listed below:
  • Understanding social media is vital in today's society
  • Planning is key whether it be for a simple post or pre-planning for a social media crisis
  • Cater to your audience
  • Responding quickly is best on a regular basis and in times of crisis because of the fast pace of social media
To make my live-tweeting effective, I employed some of Kawasaki's suggestions. I used the following tactics:
  • Hashtags to indicate relevant topics, but not too many
  • Mentioning company Twitter accounts so they could see the tweets
  • Using a GIF of Dwayne Johnson to add visual comedy and cater to my audience of college-age Twitter users who love Graphics Interchange Format
  • Retweeting an already popular tweet about the webinar from @PRSA
I learned an abundance of interesting things from "Brandjack" and think live-tweeting was a great way to identify and practice strategies I learned from "The Art of Social Media". Check out my Storify to view the entirety of my live-tweet session and understand the main points of the webinar!

See you next post,
Casey
